YOOHOOOO!!!! Can a giddy gal hitch a ride??? It’s finally spring, the sun is shining, the colorful flowers are starting to bloom and we are just freakin’ giddy about it! People are taking road trips to see the poppy fields in Antelope Valley– in in fact, Connie just went the other weekend and OH MY GOODNESS it looks absolutely stunning!! I must have fomo because I’m already thinking up all the places I want to travel to since the temps are really heating up in Cali. Where do you guys think we should travel to? We’re open to any suggestions! So the past few months we’ve been embracing colors… hot pink, hazelnut, island blue, etc. However, I realized we haven’t celebrated an actual pattern for our OOTD since our buffalo plaid post last december! See those looks here and here. Therefore, this week we are righting that wrong and dedicating it to one of the simplest yet so fun of patterns, the stripe! I found this lovely number at one of my favorite stores of all time, Anthropologie, and now that I’m full fledged adulting I can actually afford the stuff that’s in there HA! It is one of the many amazing perks of being an adult… like being able to eat out all the time or the pleasure of being in bed at 8:30pm and not giving a damn. This dress is absolutely amazing because it is the perfect transition from spring to summer, but it’s also really versatile for styling. We’ve got business on the top and party on the bottom, which means we can totally get away with a lot more!
Now one of the tricky parts of wearing stripes is that sometimes it is not all that flattering. One of the biggest and oldest fashion tips about this pattern is that vertical line are thinning and horizontal stripes are not. It’s not always the case (depending on your shape), but what’s amazing about this striped skirt is that it showcases both directions! The vertical lines are slightly asymmetrical and elongates the legs and the horizontal stripes peek out on one side to show off your curves. I mean how genius is that? It’s got a variety of colors with a shiny finish as well as a white fringe to line the edges.
On top of that the wrap around skirt actually gives a layer of interest, but it’s actually stitched down so there will be no free shows on this side of the road! It’s also form fitting in the back so that it shows off the booty. Design-wise it’s such a simple, yet brilliant concept! I can’t tell you how many times it drove me insane to pair a top and a skirt together and it’s always shifting out of place and adding unnecessary floof to the body. This faux two-piece design is the right catch for those of us who are ocd and/or *ehem* are just plain laaaaazy (me).
So yet another great thing about this dress is that the look can completely change with just the use of accessories. If you’re going out to brunch or even going out for Easter weekend you can definitely hop into this dress, throw on simple studs, a bracelet, and some heels and call it a day. It will look classy, formal, and yet still cheerful and joyous. However, if you guys know me at all by now you know I always wanna take it up a notch. By merely adding this gorgeous felt hat and sunnies from Free People I’ve taken (what could have been) an extremely preppy look and turned it into casual weekend wear. No necklace is necessary since the halter front already does all the work!
And to round it all off, I’ve added these Kelsi Dagger heels. I’m ABSOLUTELY OBSESSED!!! I love them because they’re extremely comfortable to wear, but also because of the adorable coral stripe at the top. It’s the perfect splash of color and adds a pop to a shoe we’ve seen before. On top of that the stripe accentuates your ankles in all the right ways… so if you fear cankles worry no more! Just make sure you don’t tighten the strap too tight!! When wearing a bootie it’s always best to leave a small gap to make your ankles look thinner.
So grab your besties and get ready to hit the road! ADVENTURE AWAITS!!!!
